The Concreateshow house, which showcases the latest trends in concrete use in design, has
introduced a revolutionary new range of concrete moulding products to the local
market.
31 January, 2012: South
African construction professionals and homeowners can transform and mould
concrete into almost any shape or structure by making use of the innovative
Buddy Rhodes System of bagged concrete and moulds, available exclusively through
Concreate.
Johannesburg-basedConcreate is an innovative show house which was established in September 2011
to display the numerous advantages of concrete and cement in architectural and
interior design applications, offering attractive and decorative finishes
that are time-saving, cost-saving and energy efficient.
Concreate director Peter Norton points out that the USA-based Buddy Rhodes
mixing system is among the most innovative for modern concrete applications.
“The Buddy Rhodes bone white spray coat mix is ideal for architects andinterior designers, as it enables the user to mould and colour concrete into
aesthetically-pleasing and modern items such as furniture and work top
surfaces. Having witnessed the benefits of the system first-hand at a trade
show in the USA, we decided to introduce Buddy Rhodes as
a complimentary product to the local building industry.”
Due to the simplicity of the mix, Norton
points out that concrete structures can be moulded within a matter of hours.
“The Buddy Rhodes white spray coat mix is time and cost-effective, as the user
simply has to mix the product with water, before adding the curing polymer,
pigment and water reducer,” he continues. “The end result is an
environmentally-friendly and highly-durable product that is easy to form and
texture. The mix is also available with 16 different pigments; thereby,
ensuring that the user is able to create the exact concrete structure of their
choice.”
Norton notes
that Concreate has been making use of the Buddy Rhodes white spray coat mix system for the past six months to create concrete counter tops andfurniture for leading architectural firm Urban Works. “The items built for
Urban Works using the Buddy Rhodes mixing system have proven to be
highly-popular. As a result, it has also been used for making basins for
homeowners, and numerous additional items of furniture for the Concreate showroom.”
Norton points
out that the biggest challenge facing Concreate is the fact that a number of
people still think of concrete as an unattractive material, reserved only for
foundations and sidewalks. “Concrete is an extraordinary material which is
practical, expressive and aesthetic. To most people; however, it is cold, grey
and ugly. Concreate has been established to dispel that myth, by showcasing to
visitors the warmth and colour that concrete can bring to a home. Concrete can
be produced from almost any location, and is inexpensive, durable,
non-combustible and impervious to decay.”
Looking to the
future, Norton is confident that Concreate has potential for significant growth
in the South African market. “Despite the fact that the show house has only
been open for a matter of months, Concreate has already generated a
considerable amount of interest from numerous architects nationwide. I am proud
to say that several projects have already been implemented as a result, and we
are looking forward to an exciting future, which has the potential for
considerable growth and expansion,” he concludes.
